Baller vs. Broke

There is a lot of "Splurge vs. Steal" talk in the design world, comparing high-end expensive items to their lower priced counterparts.  Copycat Chic, for example, is one of my favorite sources.  This is one of my favorite topics, so thought I'd start my own version.  Introducing "Baller vs. Broke"; because we're not all ballers.  Today's find - kitchen islands.

Baller version from Crate and Barrel, Broke version from Target.

Bright and Cheery Decor

Maybe it's because springtime is approaching but I'm super into bright colors right now.  I feel like my house could use a dose of color in a few areas.  Here are a few pieces I'm obsessing over.

Surprising Finds at Kohl's

Anyone still out there?  I've have zero good excuses for why I haven't been blogging.  Are blogs still cool?  Seems like it's all about Instagram and Facebook these days, and I follow a lot of funny people on Twitter but haven't had the guts to post on it myself yet.  I know you were all dying to know my thoughts on social media so you're welcome!

Let us move on to more important matters, and that is Kohl's.  Good ol' Kohl's; always good for a laugh.  I usually find nothing there but the occasional surprisingly cute shoes.  Well I was pleasantly surprised again the other day when I found a really cute shower curtain for my daughter's bathroom!  It was from the brand Sonoma Life + Style, and when I got online I found several other cute home decor items from the same line.

Target vs. West Elm Duvet

So I was browsing Target the other day, as I often do, and happened upon this striped duvet cover.  I immediately thought of the almost exact same duvet cover that West Elm carries; and of course Target's Queen size version is less than half the price!  This is why Target is the best.

Affordable Pillows

While shopping for a room board, I came across this great deal on pillow covers! It's the Nena Von line, available through Amazon! I've seen this seller on Etsy as well. All of the pillow covers pictured are $25 to $35 dollars each, a great price.

Be sure to fill your covers with down pillow inserts, they look the best. Sears has great prices on down pillow inserts, and if you're local, Mesa Sales has them even cheaper.

New at Cost Plus

I went to Cost Plus World Market the other day and totally died when I saw their new Aiden furniture collection. So industrial chic and different than what they usually carry. Love, love, love.

And the coffee table looks almost exactly like the one in Emerson's home that I just posted!

The EDLAND

I was at IKEA this weekend picking up a few things for a client. I stopped by the As Is section and saw an EDLAND dresser in pretty much perfect condition. Regularly $199, on sale for $125.

Edland

As you may know, IKEA's As Is section is a bit of a war zone. I quickly marked my territory by parking my cart right next to the dresser and setting my purse on top of it. As I waited for a text from my client to see if she wanted it I was accosted by fellow shoppers eyeing my dresser. Several of which did not hide their annoyance that I was stubbornly refusing to move. The good news is, the dresser was eventually mine.

Here are some other things we have in store for this room.

Elle Decor at Kohls

Did you know Elle Decor has a line at Kohls? Well I didn't. I never go to Kohls, but found myself there the other day. Then found myself pretty much drooling over everything in the Elle Decor display. Then found myself staring in disbelief at the 70% OFF sign. 70%! Then found myself sending my mom this text, "OMG Kohls is a goldmine." Oh. em. gee. you guys.

Those tables are regularly $150, right now they're $45. That big white vase is regularly $70, right now it's $21. The chic horse statue? Regularly $60, right now - $18. You get the idea.

Mr. and Mrs.

My friend Malia is addicted to buying dishes; mixing bowls, glasses, plates - you name it. I've never really shared her enthusiasm until now - I'm obsessed with this Mr. and Mrs. glass set. Wouldn't they make a great wedding present?

Urban Outfitters Print Shop

Was clicking around on Urban today and discovered they have a new section called the Print Shop. They've teamed up with an artist community called Society6.

From the website:
"Society6 is an International artist community representing more than 70 countries worldwide. We will continuously comb through their enormous archives to bring you this curated collection of our favorites. Any items ordered from the PRINT SHOP will be processed and shipped by Society6."

Pretty good prices for unique artwork, ranging from $25 to $55 depending on the size. Here are some of my faves.

Cat decor?

I don't know if you are aware, but I am somewhat of a cat enthusiast. My favorites being overweight cats, cats with human names, and of course my own cat. Today I've combined two of my passions, felines and decor. Because that's super normal?

Look-a-likes

So, you know how this mirror from Anthropologie is $298?

Well I just happened upon this baby on Craigslist for $40 bucks.

You should buy it, and then reflect upon how awesome I am for finding it for you. Get it? You get it.

Entryway Light

My entryway is in dire need of a new light. The current one is from the previous owner, it's too small and too ugly.

Here are some lights I am eyeing as possibilities to replace it.

pendant pb 199
Pottery Barn - $199
Maybe a little too rustic for my house.

pendant 1stoplighting 90
1 Stop Lighting - $95
I like the shape and the price, but I'm afraid it might look cheap in person.

penant home depot 229
Home Depot - $229
Pretty, but do I want to spend that much?

pendant homedepot 153pendant lampsplus 196
Top: Home Depot - $153, Bottom: Lamps Plus - $197

These last two are probably my favorites. I like the Lamps Plus one more, but it is a little smaller than the Home Depot version (pictures are not to scale), and more expensive. Decisons, decisions.

And for good measure, one of my most favorite entryways and entryway lights of all time - the work of Lauren from Pure Style Home.
